JORxDAN (2012)
Jorxdan is the story of one person’s attempt to manage his schizophrenia through non-pharmaceutical means.
In 2006, Jordan was admitted to CAMH (The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health), as an inpatient after a traumatic incident led to a suicide attempt. In CAMH, his condition gradually stabilized, but he remained in hospital for several months, on a regime of anti-psychotics and anti-depressants. He found being on the drugs debilitating and learned to manage the illness without the use of antipsychotics. This journey took years and Jorxdan only scratches the surface of Jordan’s battle and victory over one of the most debilitating and misunderstood of all mental illnesses. With the help and support of a brilliant and forward-thinking psychiatrist and social worker, and years of therapy Jordan was able to gradually withdraw from antipsychotic medication. Jordan’s journey, and the methods he used along the way, are documented in this short film.
